MTB - GRAVEL - CX

NVXC is a new and exciting Off-Road Section for the Club. Embracing all things off-road (other than Down Hill and Freeride) and you don’t always have to get muddy to enjoy off-road cycling!

Our aim is to bring together those interested in off-road cycling disciplines in a social and inclusive environment and to help develop skills in off-road riding for those that want it.  This will include a focus on helping to attract those currently out of touch with club cycling, or new to cycling as a sport.

Newbury Velo has built a diverse cycling community through our  successful club rides, time trials, Zwift racing, and tandem initiatives, as well as our popular cycling tours. Our new dedicated off-road focus will help this grow and enable greater access to our beautiful countryside by those who may be new to cycling, or just wish to spend less time on the road.

By extending our coaching to include mountain bike skills and off-road techniques, we're welcoming riders who might feel intimidated by road cycling, competition, or are seeking to develop more advanced bike handling skills. This expansion reflects our commitment to keeping cycling engaging, welcoming, and adaptable to diverse needs.

In addition to the non-competitive side of NVXC, we will continue to develop our hugely popular Summer CX races and other events that bring experienced and novice, young and older riders together to experience cycling and racing off road, through fun and accessible events.

Most of all, NVXC is intended to be a welcoming and relaxed environment to ride, built around a fun social scene at the core of our club.

Off-Road Coaching

We are excited to introduce a new off-road cycling coaching and ride program designed to cater to mountain biking and off-road enthusiasts of varying skill levels, both adult and kids. We're planning a monthly coordinated off-road ride initially targeting local venues like Greenham, Inkpen, and Chieveley, with potential future expansion to more diverse locations such as Salisbury Plain, the New Forest, and Swinley. We're committed to addressing ability level differences and increasing visibility to ensure broader engagement. As the program gains momentum, we aim to introduce adult-specific mountain bike skills sessions for both male and female riders. Utilising specialist equipment, or coaching at selected venues. Our goal is to create an inclusive, skill-building environment that encourages riders to explore and enjoy off-road cycling. Click here to email our NVXC co-ordinators.

Off-Road Specific Kit

As the section grows and matures, we’ll be introducing some off road specific kit, with less emphasis on our traditional road-based vibrant pink. Keep your eyes peeled in the club newsletter for more details soon.
