Why Join Newbury Velo?

Newbury Velo is a British Cycling registered Go-Ride club. Go-Ride is British Cycling’s development programme for young people. The programme provides a fun and safe way to introduce young riders to the world of cycle sport. It provides a platform to improve bike handling skills and gain confidence.

There are financial benefits for members when joining the Club, including reduced first-year British Cycling membership and discounts at local bike shops, cafes and bike-related services.

As well as getting more people cycling, the Club gives cyclists a voice in cycling-related matters within the town. Newbury Velo is part of the West Berkshire Cycle Forum, a community group hosted by West Berkshire Council that represents cycling interests throughout West Berkshire. The group includes Councillors and Officers of West Berkshire Council, providing a forum for constructive discussion on cycling matters. Most recently, the Cycle Forum has worked with the Council to spend £495,000 of Local Government Funding to encourage more cycling in the area by enhancing the network of cycle lanes. A further £275,000 was allocated in 2023 for cycling and walking schemes in and around Newbury.

Finally, joining a club is a great way to get the most out of your cycling and to meet new people. Whether you are a seasoned racer or a beginner, there is nothing better than riding with like-minded cyclists to develop your skills and challenge yourself.

Membership

You can take out a membership subscription for Newbury Velo using our online membership application hosted at British Cycling. To join, fill in the online membership form and pay your subscription by using the secure online card payment service. New members joining any club via the Brisish Cycling portal often end up joining British Cycling and not the club by mistake. There is an easy step by step guide here. Membership Costs

Annual membership is £20.00 for adults, £10.00 for juniors, and £1.00 for Velomites. (plus a £1.00 British Cycling application fee).

Online Community

We are a modern cycling club, and alongside the marvellous opportunities our members' have to get out and ride or race a bike together, we also have a strong online presence that our members can choose to engage with. We have a very active members-only FaceBook group, WhatsApp groups, a Strava Club section, and a Zwift Club. All our ride sessions are coordinated through Spond to make organising rides simple. We have also dabbled in Instagram and X and have used Discord for team TTs on Zwift. And, of course, our website is our hub.
