Coaching

Cycling coaching delivers exceptional value regardless of your age or ability level, especially when focusing on skill development rather than event preparation. A skilled coach observes your technique and provides valuable feedback on fundamental skills like cornering, and efficient pedaling that self-taught riders often miss. They create personalized progressions that build confidence while ensuring safety, helping you master challenging techniques at your own pace. Beyond physical skills, coaches teach valuable mental approaches to cycling challenges and help you develop bike handling skills that enhances every ride. With expert guidance, you'll learn proper technique from the start—avoiding bad habits that could limit your enjoyment or lead to injury, allowing you to experience greater confidence, safety, and pleasure on every cycling adventure. You are never too young, or too old to be coached well!

Children’s Coaching (3-12)

Our coaching facility is based on Henwick Playing Fields and offers a range of coaching options to children aged 3 to 12 years. The coached sessions focus on learning cycling skills in a fun and friendly environment. They are held during term time on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to -7.30pm.

Panthers: For children on balance bikes and looking to progress to pedals.

Lions: Our group for children just starting their post-stabiliser cycling journey. Often, they ride bikes with a single gear.

Leopards: Our improver group consists of those who can ride a bike fairly competently and want to develop their skills further.

Cheetahs: Our most advanced group teaches more difficult skills and offers a pathway to racing (for those interested).

If you are interested in your children joining the coaching sessions (whether they are members or not), please email the coaching lead, Melanie Sneddon.

For discounted coaching sessions, why not join Newbury Velo - Under 7s are just £1.00 a year, and Under 16s are only £10, join here.

Adult Coaching

We offer ad-hoc road and off-road training for adults. In addition, our "Mochaccino" rides on Sunday also run as "special" shorter distance rides on some weeks so novices can come along and experience group riding at their own pace with an experienced ride leader. We will start our beginner and novice cyclocross training programme in April this year. For more information on adult coaching, please email our coaching lead, Melanie Sneddon.
