Time Trialling
If you’re looking to enter one of our time trial events, please click here.
Pit yourself against the clock! Time trialling is a great way to compare your improvement and see how fast you can go. Known as the race of truth because it's just you, your bike and your effort.
There is no need for a special kit* - just turn up and ride with your normal bike (although silly hats and Batman-esque bikes will also be welcomed if you are lucky enough to own one). We have a calendar of events throughout 2024 (here), and we'll even be offering prizes - which will be geared towards specific themes on the night. Experienced Time Triallists and everyone in between are also very welcome.
Entry is pre-entry online and is £5 for members and £6 for non-members; you can even pay by contactless payment on the night if cashless is your preferred method.
CTT (Cycling Time Trials) HAVE RECENTLY PASSED AN AMENDMENT THAT REQUIRES ALL PARTICIPANTS TO HAVE A WORKING FRONT AND REAR LIGHT WHEN TAKING PART IN TIME TRIALS. NO LIGHTS. NO RIDE.
But we have some lovely lights that we can loan out should any of you forget to bring them.
What are the VTTA Standards?
Competitions for Veteran Time Trials Association members are based on 'Standards'. So what are they?
The Standards are effectively a handicapping system that takes into account a rider's age, so even the oldest riders, some in their 80s and even 90s, can compete against "younger" veterans who are in their 40s and 50s. The handicapping system also allows men and women to compete against each other. They also cover riders on different machines - bikes, tandems and tricycles. Thus, The Standards system provides fair competition for all ages and genders. They have been revised for the 2019 season in light of the most recent data on veterans' time trial performances.
The system works by setting a standard time for the distance, age and sex of the rider; read more here.
Check out the individual age distance standards from the list here.
